1. December 2025
On 27 November 2025, EFRAG published the VSME Digital Template in German, Danish, French, and Italian. The Excel-based digital template enables VSME users to enter their data, perform automatic calculations, and check for consistency. In addition, the digital disclosures can be converted into both machine-readable and human-readable formats using an Excel-to-XBRL converter available on the EFRAG website.
To create the German language version of the VSME Digital Template, EFRAG relied on the support of the joint German-Austrian project group of the DRSC and AFRAC. The DRSC–AFRAC project group had already translated the first 65 paragraphs of the VSME submitted by EFRAG to the European Commission in December 2024 (as previously reported) and has now completed the German translation of the VSME Digital Template. The German version is aligned with the European Commission’s recommendation on the VSME published in July 2025.
On 12 December 2025, EFRAG will also present further supporting material on VSME disclosures C2 (Practices, Policies, and Future Initiatives), C3 (GHG Reduction Targets and Climate Transition), and C7 (Severe Negative Human Rights Incidents) during a public meeting of the SME Forum. This material is also intended to be integrated into the VSME Digital Template.
Background:
The VSME Digital Template is part of EFRAG’s VSME ecosystem and was first published on 27 May 2025 (initially only in English) as supporting material for the voluntarily applicable sustainability reporting standard for small and medium-sized enterprises (VSME) (as previously reported). The VSME ecosystem aims to increase market acceptance of the VSME standard and support SMEs on their path toward sustainability reporting.
The Omnibus I package also provides for the adoption of a delegated act establishing a voluntary sustainability reporting standard based on the VSME standard, which is available to all undertakings not required to report under the ESRS.
