Dr Brandt reappointed as IFRS Foundation Trustee

On 1 June 2017, the IFRS Foundation, under which the IASB operates, announced the reappointment of four of its Trustees for another three year term. Amongst the four individuals is Dr Werner Brandt, former CFO of SAP. The terms of all four Trustees start on 1 January 2018 and end 31 December 2020.

Asked to comment on the reappointment of Dr Brandt, the President of the ASCG, Professor Dr Andreas Barckow, said: “Werner Brandt’s reappointment as Trustee of the IFRS Foundation is highly appreciated. It is good news for the German community of entities reporting under IFRS and testimony of his outstanding work for the Foundation. I am very happy for him and congratulate him on his reappointment. For the ASCG, it is of utmost importance to have direct channels into the IFRS Foundation and all of its bodies: At the level of the Trustees for strategic and political matters; at the level of the Board (Martin Edelmann) and the IFRS Interpretations Committee (Dr Martin Schloemer) for the technical work; and from standard setter to standard setter through the Accounting Standards Advisory Forum (ASAF), which we are a member of since its incpetion, as well as through our regular exchanges between our and the IASB’s staff. With Werner Brandt German Business and the ASCG have a representative at the Foundation who has a long track record in supporting IFRSs and fostering continuous dialogue and exchange between the standard setting bodies. The challenges ahead following the dramatic changes in the geopolitical environment he and his colleagues face – not to mention the Brexit vote – are not to be underestimated. I wish him all the best for his second term and look very much forward to three more years of fruitful cooperation.”
