ESMA: Enforcement priorities for the 2026 financial year issued

On 13 October 2026, the common enforcement priorities of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and the national supervisory authorities of the European Economic Area for the 2026 financial year were published.

The enforcement priorities are organised as follows:

  1. Priorities related to IFRS financial statements
    • Geopolitical risks and uncertainties
    • Restructuring provisions and debt restructuring
  2. Priorities related to sustainability statements
    • Continuing progress in applying materiality assessment
    • Providing connected information on impacts, risks and opportunities (IROs), policies, actions and targets (PATs), and metrics
  3. Priority related to ESEF reporting
    • Common ESEF filing errors found in the statement of changes in equity

In addition, ESMA provides general considerations and guidance on other topics that are not enforcement priorities. These include, in particular, topics relating to IFRS 18, ESEF and the revision of the ESRS.

The DRSC is engaged in various activities on these issues. For example, the DRSC user fora on the introduction of IFRS 18, electronic financial reporting according to ESEF and on the ESRS, which are exclusively open to our member companies and associations.
